How EstateHQ works
Last updated 12 Jun 2026
EstateHQ is a technology platform that helps people in England & Wales who are administering an estate. This page sets out plainly what we are, what we are not, and how to use the service well.
1. What EstateHQ is
EstateHQ is a software platform offering information, document tools, and administrative support for estate administration. We help you organise the work — finding assets and liabilities, drafting notifications to banks and other institutions, preparing inheritance-tax workings, building a working pack for probate, and keeping a clean record.
You remain the executor or administrator. You make the decisions and sign anything that needs signing.
2. What EstateHQ is not
EstateHQ is not a firm of solicitors. We are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. We do not provide legal advice or carry out reserved legal activities (we do not prepare probate application papers for others, do not litigate, and do not handle conveyancing). Our outputs are information and tools to help you complete your own estate administration.
EstateHQ Tech Ltd is a company registered in England & Wales, company number 17239216. ICO registration ZC155686.
3. What this means in practice
- You remain the decision-maker on every step.
- Calculations (including inheritance-tax workings) and drafted documents are indicative. You should check them — and, where appropriate, have them checked by a qualified professional — before relying on them or sending anything.
- Working packs are prepared for your review. They are not submission-ready filings.
- When a situation needs a regulated professional, EstateHQ will tell you. You’re always free to choose your own adviser.
4. When to involve a regulated professional
Examples of situations where we recommend instructing a qualified solicitor or chartered tax adviser:
- The estate is contested, or a will is being challenged.
- The estate is insolvent (debts exceed assets) or there is uncertainty about solvency.
- There are trusts, foreign assets, complex business reliefs, or non-UK domicile considerations.
- Disputes between beneficiaries or executors.
- Anything unusual about the IHT position (for example, large lifetime gifts, gifts with reservation of benefit, business or agricultural property relief beyond a clear-cut case).
5. Complaints
We take complaints seriously and respond promptly. See how to complain for the route, timings, and your statutory options.
6. Cancel or close your account
You can close your account at any time from Settings. Refund and cancellation rights under UK consumer law are set out in our Terms of service.
